Another compound machine lab, but this was a fun one...
Here are the lab constraints:
·The final design is a vehicle with 3+ simple machines that propel the vehicle greater than 20 feet on the level floor. Speed is not a requirement. The drive train must contain 3+ simple machines.
·Your choice on vehicle design.
·All parts must travel with the vehicle.
·The applied effort (force required to travel) is not human input. The human interaction is only to trigger this effort.
·Financial constraint is the equipment in your team’s toolkit and gray spares bin.
·Safety is important.
·5 days allocated for lab.
Our team was one of the teams to have a fully working(and moving) vehicle.
Our team came up with a vehicle that had a drop able counterweight that spins a spool. the spool in turn rotates the axle. sprockets and chain multiply that energy that is then used to rotate the wheels. We chose a big sized wheel because 1 rotation of a big wheel will make our vehicle move a longer distance than 1 rotation of a smaller wheel. Here's a animation to explain how:
I am really happy with my results of this lab. Find attached to this post the video of this lab and some pictures.
